Aftercare & Healing

At Grand Junction Piercing Studio by MiLK & ViViD, we believe the piercing itself is only the beginning. Proper aftercare plays a major role in achieving a comfortable healing experience and beautiful long-term results.

Every body heals differently. Factors such as anatomy, lifestyle, sleeping habits, jewelry placement, and overall health can affect healing times. While we provide general timelines below, your healing journey may vary.

The good news? You're never on your own.

If something looks, feels, or concerns you during the healing process, we encourage you to call or text us. We'd much rather answer a quick question than have you worry unnecessarily or receive inaccurate advice online.

General Aftercare Guidelines

  • Clean Twice Daily

  • Use sterile saline spray as directed for the first few weeks of healing.

  • Leave It Alone

  • Avoid twisting, turning, spinning, or playing with your jewelry.

  • Keep It Clean

  • Avoid touching your piercing with unwashed hands.

  • Be Mindful While Sleeping

  • Pressure is one of the most common causes of irritation and delayed healing.

  • Avoid Swimming

  • Pools, lakes, rivers, and hot tubs can introduce bacteria during the early healing period.

  • Jewelry Changes

Most piercings should not be changed until they are sufficiently healed. If you're ready for a jewelry upgrade, visit us and we'll be happy to assist.

Healing Support Products

We carry a selection of products designed to make healing easier and more comfortable.

Sterile Saline Aftercare Spray

Our preferred aftercare solution is available in-studio and is specifically formulated for piercing care. Using a quality saline spray can help keep your piercing clean while supporting the healing process.

Piercing Pillows

If you're healing ear piercings, a piercing pillow can be a game changer. These specially designed pillows help relieve pressure while sleeping, reducing irritation and making healing more comfortable.

Not sure what products are right for your piercing? Just ask. We're happy to make recommendations based on your anatomy, piercing placement, and lifestyle.

Need supplies? We stock sterile saline aftercare spray, piercing pillows, jewelry care products, and other healing essentials in-studio. Just ask during your appointment or stop by anytime.

The Importance of Downsizing

One of the most overlooked — yet most important — parts of the piercing process is your downsizing appointment.

When a new piercing is performed, we intentionally install slightly longer jewelry to allow room for swelling. Once the initial swelling has resolved, continuing to wear jewelry that is too long can lead to irritation, snagging, migration, prolonged healing, and unwanted piercing angles.

For many piercings, downsizing is a critical step in achieving the best long-term result.

Your Downsizing Appointment Is Included

All piercings performed at Grand Junction Piercing Studio by MiLK & ViViD include a complimentary healing assessment and downsizing evaluation approximately 4–6 weeks after your piercing.

During this appointment, we will:

✔ Assess your healing progress

✔ Check jewelry fit and placement

✔ Determine if downsizing is appropriate

✔ Answer any healing questions

✔ Help prevent irritation caused by excess jewelry length

While the downsizing service is included, a shorter post may be required depending on your anatomy and healing progress. If needed, replacement posts are available for purchase at the time of your visit.

Don't Skip This Appointment

Many irritation bumps, snagging issues, and healing complications can be traced back to jewelry that should have been downsized sooner.

If you're unsure whether it's time for a downsize, simply call or text us. We'd be happy to guide you.

We strongly recommend scheduling your complimentary healing check within 4–6 weeks of your appointment to help ensure the best possible healing experience and long-term placement.

Complimentary Progress Check

All piercings include a complimentary progress check approximately 4–6 weeks after your appointment.

During your visit we'll:

✔ Evaluate healing progress

✔ Check jewelry fit

✔ Discuss downsizing when appropriate

✔ Answer any questions

Healing Takes Time

Healing is not always a straight line. It's normal for piercings to have good days and bad days throughout the healing process.

Be patient, follow your aftercare instructions, and remember:

When in doubt, call or text us. We're here to help every step of the way.
